Birthday Boy

Cohen turned six just a few days before his first day of First Grade.

Cohen has grown so much since we moved to Phoenix, in height, knowledge and spiritually.  We have enjoyed his growing questions and great determination.  He learned to ride his bike most recently (I tried posting a video...will try again another time).  He must have been ready.  He was just waiting on us to teach him.
We started the morning with doughnuts.  I was able to sneak out and get them before they all woke up.  The sun rises early in the summer and so do they.

David didn't have to go into work too early, so Cohen was able to open his presents before he got home from work.  With some help of course!
He wants any and all things remote control.  He got one for Christmas that was heavy duty to take the beating of a little guy.  The batteries get eaten up so fast.  He is happy to have something lighter and speedy.
This was a picture he took, because we wouldn't let him take it to school the next day at meet the teacher.  He wanted to show and tell already.

We finally broke down and got the little legos.  We have wanted to for a while.  They build the big legos like crazy.  The price for these things is high for such little treasures.  They have hours upon endless hours of playtime in them.  I understand the price now.  Even 400 pieces can only build so much.  The collection has begun.  I remember my brothers' collections keeeping them busy as well.  Now I get it!
This is one of the creations the booklet demonstrated.  After a few of the pattern building, they have taken on their own creations with what they now know about the legos.  I say "they," because these have become a household favorite, young and old.  Again I understand the price...doesn't mean I like it ;)  Below is Taylin's creation...she elaborated it later in the day to have a more connected and covered garage.
Even though the legos and car brought lots of fun, Cohen had a comment on his wishlist (after only a couple hours of discovery, "I didn't get everything on my wishlist.  Why didn't you get everything on my wishlist?"  We have been working on having an attitude of gratitude.  I explained how a wishlist was to give us ideas.  We simply couldn't buy the remote control robot, remote control helicopter, remote control....there were five or six and we did skip the glitter markers.
Cohen requested a doughnut cake.  I didn't argue or try to change his mind at all.  I found the best thing ever.  Amazing Glaze icing by Duncan Hines.  I used half vanilla and half chocolate drizzled over a pound cake mix.  Perfect! Everyone enjoyed it!
We waited until David got home...after hours of building and running "Knuckles" (the remote control car) around and around, to go to Peter Piper Pizza upon Cohen's request.
