A Buggy Friend

Kennedy caught a bug.  She wanted to keep it in a container.  I didn't have anything with a lid I wanted to punch holes in.  Plus I didn't know how attached she would be.  She put the bug in the container.  She called it the bug's "crib."  It was time for her to take a nap, so she put it by her bed.  Creepy to me!  I was a little uncomfortable with the idea, but also knew it was a tiny harmless bug.

I thought I heard the following happen, but disregarded the idea.  Cohen had taken the container and dumped the bug into the toilet for a farewell flush.  He thought that is what we were supposed to do with it, so he took care of it himself.  (I recently caught a black widow for the kids to observe and learn what to stay away from.  It took forever to die.  Out of curiosity we fed it a bug or two and watched it wrap the bug up.  Apparently the big bug was it's last meal, so we flushed it down the toilet.)

Kennedy was going to bed and noticed her "crib" was void of any bug.  Cohen explained his pest control actions.  Kennedy was fairly upset about it.  I told Cohen he was to find a bug for Kennedy while she was asleep.

When Kennedy came in from her nap, she brought the "crib" with a new specimen in it.  She came in with some concern.  Cohen had replaced the bug.  Upon further examination, it was a beheaded bug, lifeless.  It fell out and we couldn't find it.  Even though it was lifeless, she was upset it was lost.  We quickly found it and it is back in the "crib."  I am no longer worried about it crawling out or onto anybody.  I imagine she will lose interest in such a critter and we can send it on it's peaceful way.  All this while trying not to laugh out loud...or even smirk, but be sympathetic towards the situation.
