Where have we been?

So it has been a while and I am loving all the new stuff Blogger has added.  A new motivation to get me back up again.

Where have we been?  All is well and staying healthy and happy.  My free moments (usually means sacrificing sleep or while the kids are napping) to blog have been dedicated to two things: one reading.  The second one answered by Cohen's comment today: "Mom, why are you always sewing?"

It is my hobby, my release!
I have had many projects flying through my machine.  I have been sewing a little more.  I try to sew when the big kids are at school and the little ones are napping...or after all are in bed.  Well, my list has been long and the kids have been out of school for two weeks.  When I do get it done, someone is bound to see me working on something.  I enjoyed just one Halloween sewing extravaganza, so I was more motivated to stitch up some gifts for Christmas.  There is always a project brewing in my head.  I probably won't post too many pictures of my projects unless my cute kids are wearing them.  Some of them were shipped off before shots were fired.  I have stretched beyond girls' dresses, so the possibilities are endless.  Ah, except mending.  What I should be using my needle and thread a little more.  That pile is growing.

I have "up-cycled," and tried to use as much of the scraps or extra fabric I already have.  I enjoy that challenge.  I must confess Jo@nns was frequently visited.  I have gotten good at finding deals and using coupons creatively.  Due to my frequent visits, I have banned myself as the look from David has too (or lack of commenting).  Just a list of what has run through my machine lately:
apron (Isn't my brother a good sport!),
doll skirt,
skirt and shirt up-cycle, pant to skirt (no pic...need to fix it up),

"reupholster" umbrella stroller cover, another little girl dress, a skirt for me,  baby pillow case dress, two hot pads, a grocery bag holder,
a beach bag, ten travel pillow cases,
10 ispy bags (Thanks, Barbara for encouraging me and your great ideas!),
and a fleece robe.  That is in the past couple of months.  Now stuck in my machine...ok not really stuck, but lingering project from slight burn out...the girls' Christmas, ahem, New Year's, ahem, uhhh, now special church dresses.

On that note...some pictures of these projects and then updates on what we were running around doing between project splurges.  I have to add such a special something.  Our little family draws names for each other.  It is fun to see what comes of it.  Taylin drew my name.  Her original response threw me off and made me chuckle, "Ah, that is no fun."  I asked her what she meant.  She said something to the fact that she couldn't pick out something fun like toys or something.  I teased and said, "A lump of coal will do."

I had no idea what she was up to.  I am typically hard to surprise.  I don't really get curious.  I just pick up on subtle clues and go detective on the surprise.  Anywho!  We all went to Target and separated to go on our hunt.  I tried to stay away.  As we were ending our shopping, I was near Taylin.  They tried to hide it and I tried to cover my eyes.  They were around the sports section, you can never go wrong there!  I thought it was a water ball or something.  Taylin likes to do yoga with me and gets concerned that I don't have all the equipment.

I was very wrong.  I was so touched when I opened the most thoughtful gift.  She did this all on her own.  I opened the wrapping paper and found an organizer and a photo album.  Inside the organizer is a note that reads,
"Dear Mom,
This is for writing about your sewing, and things in your photo album.  I love you very much.  Merry Christmas.
Love,
Taylin"

So thoughtful!!!  I have this little spiral-memo-pad-thingy-ma-jig that I use to plan out my projects.  She was really paying attention.  She also know how special it is to document them.  I have taken pictures, now I can print them out and keep them together.  Someday (when quilting is more of an enjoyment) I want to use the scraps from what I have made for the kiddos and do a quilt.  I saw this idea and they had a photo album of the child wearing the item.  It is an ambitious idea.  I don't know that I have  pic for everyone and with them in it.  I also don't love quilting.  I like doing the front...then that is where I stop.

Cohen's robe was a little intimidating.  I drew his name.  He has wanted a robe for some time.  I priced fabric and it was better to buy one.  I never found one I liked for him.  Then one day while skimming through the fabric at the best store ever, I stumbled on a great fleece, on sale and with coupons.  So, I sewed him a robe for $6...and I like it.
The best part,
 so does he.
Now the pattern was aged, from my mom's collection, and the direction a bit lacking in clerity at times.  The fabric was all new to me and not the most fun to work with.  What I did like about the fabric was it is cute, super soft, original and so fluffy it hides any stitching errors.

Well, to all who have endured this post...I will furthermore post on those cute adorable kids you have been looking for.  Bare with me!  I will be playing a little bit of catch up, so maybe a little more photos than explanations for now.  I say that and then I will type away, like so.
