Homemade *BLAST*

Last weekend we attended a church social. It was a *BLAST*! Truly. A brother in Holland, TX...just south of Temple...puts this on every year and has for years. There are homemade burgers he grills on this massive log burning grill. Homemade potato chips. I am not a fry or potato fan...these are to die for. Really the best thing ever!! There was also homemade root beer, Taylin's favorite. She was ready to hook up to an IV of Root Beer.












The kids enjoyed the rope swing and the "Cherry Picker Ride." David even relieved the ride controls at the end.

He wasn't fond of the heights. Taylin and Cohen loved it. The evening ended with homemade fireworks, yep. Brother McKinley is a professional. This show was amazing. Up close and personal. The kids asked about them all night. We didn't think they would last that long. Kennedy fell asleep, but woke up just in time...they were very loud.
The kids plugged their ears and closed their eyes. I caught them peeking a few times. It was amazing! We hope to attend next year. Thank you McKinley family!

Our Bluebonnet Attempt

We have driven past and enjoyed many spring seasons with millions of Bluebonnets in the great state of Texas, but we don't have any pictures. I bravely pulled over between Temple and College Station with the three kiddos, by myself, and attempted to get a good shot.



The first few were the best. The kids were distracted by cars driving by and itchy, itchy. We hope to try again...maybe not this year, maybe better luck next year. Enjoy what we did get...it was a great place. Not as full in the Bluebonnets, but I loved the barn/old building in the background. Unfortunately I didn't get a good shot of all in one.

Well...I guess I never did an entry other than Cohen and Taylin. I was hopeful. Our Mad Hatter has been very busy.





Not celebrating UNBIRTHDAYS...just his own 30th this year (February). He was on call on his birthday, so the kiddos and I made a cake and took it up to the hospital. David and the team he was with had just enough time to grab a bite and get back to work. David was surprised and appreciative. Since we couldn't throw a party, his work wardrobe was updated as well as his stethescope.

We celebrated his unbirthday and our anniversary in Spain!!! Which has covered our blog lately. There is still more to come...when I can pause life for a moment to update it.

David has been in his third year of medical school. He has done rotations throughout the year in different fields (family medicine, psych, ob/gyn, pediatrics, internal medicine and now surgery). Each rotation is 6 or 12 weeks long. He has eight weeks left in surgery and will immediately begin fourth and final year! He expressed he is/has senior-itis...one year and a few weeks to go my love! From the grapevine: fourth year is "vacation year." I imagine relative to the study load of first and second year to the physical work load of third year...probably so.





David loved a little bit about every rotation. After each rotation, he thought that was the field he wanted to go into...except psych. Even though I loved the hours for psych!!! I would rather him enjoy what he is doing. He has decided to go into pediatrics with a GI specialty. He did well in all his rotations and enjoyed them so much that he had a hard time deciding, but feels most comfortable in pediatrics.

Hello to all! Thank you for your comments. We are glad you have enjoyed our Spain posts. I would post all the pictures on a slide show of some sort, but there are fun stories to many of them. As I am trying to update my journal and this...the process is slow. Also...reality (motherhood, spouse, church calling, and reunion planning) has put some of the post on hold or delayed. I will be posting more Spain experiences and pictures.




PLEASE NOTE: Spain is beautiful, but even better captured by Amber Hagen, our inspiration to go to Spain, our tour guide and dear friend (and her husband, Brian of course). I still don't know as much as she does about Spain! I was soaking it all in. I guess I will have to go back to soak some more! I will be posting pictures of them (The Hagens) as well and more great memories!!!!
